Starrett also manufactures Vernier, dial, digital and spring callipers for taking measurements in the metalworking, forestry and woodworking industries. Starrett dial indicators translate small linear distances into rotational movements. They are available in graduations ranging from 0.001 mm to 0.01 mm in the metric system and from 0.00005 inches to 0.001 inches in the imperial system. Starrett miter protractors are used for direct & comparative measurement of angles and are available in manual, digital, miter & universal-bevel variants. These tools are widely used by machinists, toolmakers and quality inspectors for setting bevels, transferring angles or checking cutter clearances. Dial indicators convert linear distances into rotational movement that measures dimensions up to 4 inches, with an accuracy of 0.0001 inches. They are usually mounted to a magnetic base or another Starrett fixture.
Place the setting bar between the measuring faces. Once the ratchet clicks, gently turn the thimble. Turn the sleeve gently until the thimble zero and sleeve index are aligned, and place the spanner in the hole. The Starrett micrometer is now calibrated.
Both regular outside and depth micrometers have the same spindle and graduations, but the graduation order for depth micrometers is reversed. Digital depth micrometers have better resolution than conventional line-graduated depth micrometers.
