Effluent or utility pumps are designed to remove gray water that contain minimal solids (up to 3/4 inch), from sump pits, septic tanks and laundry tray systems. Sewage pumps dispose off waste water containing unwanted solids, up to 2 inches in diameter, to a septic line or a sewer.
